Have you ever had a partner, boyfriend or spouse that was over your league? as in not normally on your reach but you somehow managed to win his heart? We’ve all seen this often, a super model and a very skinny ugly guy or a brainy scientist with a dumb blonde.

What brings these matches together? is it love? attraction? sex? money? This varies depending on the couple and the situation but most of the time, one finds on the other the bits and pieces they were missing, i.e the dumb blonde intellectual stimulation, the skinny guy might be verbose or filthy rich and so on.

I have a couple of friends in real life who split recently after years of apparent bliss, but one day the thing that seemed to hold them together in perfect loved just vanished. They were not very alike and everyone half expected them to split at some point -which they did-

This left me wondering, is the factor that makes these odd couples stick together and be in love, perishable? what about the “perfect” matches? Can they stick together no matter what? Personally, I don’t believe in love at first sight, I don’t partake of the idea that some people are just “swept” off their feet by an uncontrollable urge to be together; relationships -the ones that matter and last- take time and work and just the right amount of mutual self sacrifice -making compromises for the other one-

My parents were the perfect example of this, they were married 30 years, and I can safely say the day my father died, both were still very much in love, but this level of commitment and emotional need took time and hard work.

Like I always say: The perfect partner is a person who gets to know the real you -the scary one-, and loves you even more.
