Born This way...

I believe so strongly on the topic and subject of this article, I will be breaking one of my most sacred rules when it comes to my internet persona, and that is revealing a small part of my RL. The one in the picture is yours truly at the age of 4, back then the world had no sexuality for me and it didn't make a difference in my head, you could have had two heads and I would have simply asked you if there were any others like you and then go on being your friend if you were nice and liked the same stuff I did.

But then I grew up and things got complex, and a whole bunch of unneeded information got engraved in my head, peer pressure, what was assumed I would turn out to be, what I assumed society expected of me and so on... being straight and having a family being one of them.

I fooled myself into believing I liked girls that way, when in fact I didn't and even dated a few in high-school, but there was always something missing; when I finally got over what everyone wanted and came to terms with what I wanted and what would make me happy, that's when my life improved 150 %. I am currently a semi-public internet figure, a gay father of two wonderful gay sons and not once I have let them feel embarrassed or not free to explore their sexuality as they see fit.

Life is a gift and time is precious, time is something you cannot get back, once is gone is gone for good. My only regret in life is all of that time I wasted trying to be a person I was not, so I could "fit in" and make everyone like me, when in fact being myself and honest about the person I had to be and needed to has made me wholesome and happier than ever.

My name is Spike Clémenceau-Silent and I was born gay, so I put my paws up, be out, be proud and never allow anyone decide who you have to be or need to be, the only person whose opinion counts, is yourself.

Out and Proud

Pride: as defined by Webster's it is the act, quality or state of being proud, hence possessing a reasonable and justifiable degree of self esteem; so with this notion and definition, how can gay pride really be defined or categorized?

Is it in our obligation as gay men or members of the LGTB community -to be more inclusive-, to be openly proud and celebrate the fact that we have a sexual orientation? Are we being bad homosexuals if we're not out and proud?

There are a number of other minorities -although in our particular case, the more advances to gain equality we make, the more it seems to me that we are far from being considered a minority-, that don't participate in openly broadcasting how awesome it is to be a part of their particular group; so it'd be safe to assume that the celebrational spirit that comes with Gay pride, it is indeed more of a particular choice.

Simply explained, to be proud of being Gay can be manifested and conveyed in many different ways -not all of them public and flashy-, which doesn't particularly makes them less effective. Be as it may, this being in second life or RL -or any other social platform you choose to communicate with others-, be proud of who you are and what you have to offer to others and like my father always said, "we're all equals because at the end of the day, we all sit on the same porcelain throne to do our business, Kings Queen and peasants alike"

One Million Biggots

I am sitting here, looking at my screen trying to type the right words to get my idea across and I have to frankly admit I am, for the very first time in my life, beyond words. I truly don't know what got into these "one million moms" group, but if I must say so, their efforts have gone from being mildly amusing -seriously a group of not nearly 50 k trying to boycott Ellen DeGeneres and JC Penny, who have easily 10 times their numbers in supporters IS amusing- to point blank insulting.

Cancel Gay Superheroes immediately, says One million moms

So before I got my hands on writing this article, I decided to do some active and responsible research by reading up first on what they had to say and what points they had to make as "traditional" or to use a more appropriate term "conservative" families -as we all know that there is nothing traditional to families as a whole, they can be defined thankfully, in so many different ways-

So let's go over a few key points on what these people have to say -and don't try to look up their Facebook group, been there done that, it got obviously, removed-

A) "This is ridiculous! Why do adult gay men need comic superheroes as role models? They don't but do want to indoctrinate impressionable young minds by placing these gay characters on pedestals in a positive light" This is true, we don't need gay comic superheroes as role models, but comics are a reflection of society and culture and do so as a form of art; as for the indoctrinating part, if we had the need to do so -as to creating more homosexuals- we'd have Gay missionaries going door to door singing gay hymns and telling people on how marvelous it is to be gay and the wonders it does indeed to your life; on a second thought, aren't you CHRISTIANS, MORMONS and JEHOVA WITNESSES already doing that?

B) "As Christians, we know that homosexuality is a sin (Romans 1:26-27)" Since you are supporting your irrational hatred on a book, I'd advice you to carefully read up Leviticus' position on slavery, incest, among a huge number of other things I simply won't take the time to refute or list -do read up on Exodus as well, quite a few good things in there rewarding the heterosexual lifestyle which we already know can be, so colorful- and while you're doing that and basing your hatred on an "unflawed" book, do take the time to explain as well how is it that in one of the new testament books, there is only one angel announcing Jesus has risen while on the rest there's always two -and no I won't tell you which one, but it IS there-

Maybe, then maybe while taking the time on having some base on your irrational fear and hatred, you will learn to grow up already and let people live in peace -Canadians and Europeans have been doing this for quite a while now and no, the world hasn't ended and straight children are still straight and gay children are still gay-

Forty years from now, you will look back and be ashamed of yourselves for even trying to segregate love, once again. As a gay single parent, I will go to bed and wake up every morning with the clear conscience of having done right by my family and others around me, while doing this in love which is basically what Jesus preached.

Speak out!

To speak out, as defined by Websters is the act of expressing oneself's thoughts or opinions, this being orally or non-verbally and to talk freely and fearlessly about an issue. The issue at hand can vary and cover a wide array of trending topics, but what I am going to cover on today's article is -of course- about sexuality.

As a gay man, coming to terms with your sexuality and being comfortable and confident enough about it is only half the road to mental health, because whether we like it or not, we also need approval from family and friends and those we hold close, dear and relevant to our heart.

But having them accept who you truly are can be complex and bring up a number of issues. One of my second life family members and a guy I not only hold in high esteem but love dearly for who he is felt compelled recently to share his views on homosexuality, as he has recently come out to his parents and logically assumed that sharing information would not only help him but many other teens out there struggling with the same issue, since simply put... information is power.

A link to his page is already posted on my blog roll, but here is a direct link to his page (http://aggblogs.blogspot.com/) which you are free to copy and paste and distribute as you see fit. Being gay doesn't change the person you are, just who you sleep with, and sometimes people seem to overlook that fact.

Just Kiss me

Pictures supplied by Per Johansen!
There are many things in life that people take for granted or assume that are for certain collectives, but the cry for equality all over the world from minorities is not a call to be considered the same, is to be treated the same.

To be considered the same and to be treated the same is a fine line that some extremists don't seem to see, a nuance that does make the difference. When African Americans suffered segregation and fought for equal rights, they were not looking to be considered Caucasians, they simply wanted to be have the citizen rights that were being negated to them; same applies for women on all sectors of society and so on.

I happen to be lucky enough to live in a country where equal rights have been embraced to a point where the new generations are not embarrassed anymore about showing public affection or even holding hands if they so happen to be of the same gender, where the right to kiss in public is the most natural thing in the world, but as an American expatriate, my heart goes out to all of those people across the ocean that are still fighting for the simple things that most take for granted.

The LGTB community doesn't wish to be considered straight people, we don't even want to be treated as such, but as tax paying citizens, we do believe that there are certain citizen rights that are being negated to us, hidden behind a thick layer of religion and even in countries such as Hungary, "the protection of family" is used as an excuse. I am a gay father to two gay sons, we are a family and our friends and family consider us as such. I love them and look after them, their well being and growth as law-abiding citizens. In my head and in that of millions around the world a family is a family and marriage is marriage, whether this is between two men or two women, or a man and a woman.
